1043 - Robert de Turlande takes possession of the small church of the village then called Casota offered by his uncle Rencon, bishop of Clermont, and of various estates in the Senouire Valley given by the Beaumont family, a local Knight. 1342 - Pierre Roger, a former novice of La Chaise-Dieu, is elected Pope in Avignon under the name Clement VI. He decides to have the Abbey Church rebuilt and to be buried there. 1430 - Abbot Hugo de Chouvigny de Blot installs the stalls and commissions the Dance Macabre fresco. 1518 - Shortly before his death, Abbot Jacques de Saint-Nectaire receives the tapestries on the themes of the Bible of the Poor. 1674 - Abbot Hyacinthe Serroni consecrates the new high altar, orders the organ and has the monastery buildings on the Place de l'Écho rebuilt. 1790 - The Abbey is closed during the turmoil of the Revolution. 1826 - The Abbey Church becomes the Parish Church. 1984 - The Community of the Brothers of Saint John opens the Priory of Saint Mary.
